Stainless Steel Tableware Standard System Framework
Oct 12, 2025
The Chinese stainless steel tableware standard system includes three categories of mandatory standards:
Basic safety standards: GB 4806.9-2023 "National Food Safety Standard - Metal Materials and Products for Food Contact" stipulates technical indicators such as lead migration ≤0.01mg/dm² and nickel migration ≤0.5mg/kg
Product labeling standards: GB 9684-2011 requires the labeling of "for food contact" and the type of stainless steel (such as 304/430). Products without labeling are prohibited from sale
Terminology standards: GB/T 15067.1-1994 defines basic terms such as tableware components and processing technology, and adopts ISO 4481:1977 international standard.
Material technical requirements
According to GB/T 20878-2007, food-grade stainless steel must meet the following requirements:
Chromium content ≥10.5% to form a passivation film
Carbon content ≤1.2% to ensure corrosion resistance
304 austenitic steel with a nickel content ≥8% is a commonly used material.
The 2023 version of the standard added restrictions on the content of impurity elements such as aluminum and copper, requiring aluminum ≤0.1% and copper ≤0.25%.
