Serving Dishes

Serving dishes are an integral part of dining tableware meant for holding or serving food. These pieces of dishware can be used to serve or hold food of any type. To keep the food hot, serving dishes are sometimes provided with a lid. These dishes are mostly flat and circular in shape, though customized shapes are also available. Round, oval, leaf-shaped, etc, are the common shapes.

Quite a few variety of materials are used for making serving dishes. Glass, porcelain, ceramic, Bone China, metal, etc are the most common materials used. However, serving dishes designed for cold dishes like salads are sometimes made from plastic. Beautiful designs are painted, either by hand or by machines to make these serving dishes attractive. However, glass serving dishes are adorned with etched designs.
